Nakul Anand on GST rationalisation for the Hotel industry

The GST Council, on Friday, agreed to lower tax rates imposed on the hotel industry during its meeting. Led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the council decided to tax hotels on rates varying from 18 to zero percent, depending on their tariffs. With this, the hotel industry has been removed from the 28 percent tax slab — the highest under the GST regime so far. Today's Traveller asked Nakul Anand, Chairman – FAITH and Executive Director, ITC, about his views on the move.

Anand said, "The news on GST rationalisation comes as a big shot in the arm for the Tourism industry. All ten member bodies of FAITH have worked tirelessly towards this endeavour and on behalf of FAITH, we would like to thank the Government for making this happen. This adds great spurt and momentum to the Hospitality industry and creates a positive sentiment that ensures more vigour and strength to Destination India."
