Dialogues on Mental Health & Well Being during COVID 19 and Beyond

Today's Traveller announces the launch of a webinar series: Dialogues on Mental Health & Well Being: COVID 19 & Beyond in response to the elevated levels of stress in the wake of life-altering changes caused by COVID 19. The first webinar in the series will be on Saturday 11 July 2020 at 5 pm.

Decoding Mental Health and Well Being during COVID 19 & Beyond will cover a series of webinars with one of India's most renowned psychologists, Dr Jitendra Nagpal, to landscape newer horizons of hope, happiness and harmony.

Any change brings disruption and COVID 19 has brought gruesome change in its wake. It is not just the physical aspect of safety of life - but the unseen onslaught of mental stress triggered by fear, loss and isolation. Much of this stress is internalised and as adjustment problems continue to multiply, the ensuing identity crisis brings regressive emotions into play.

The effect is across all segments and ages...at the workplace with colleagues, with teachers, parents and children, at home with couples and families.

Dr Jitendra Nagpal is a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist & Incharge, Institution of Mental Health & Life Skills Promotion, Moolchand Medcity, New Delhi. Dr Nagpal has been in the Services planning, Training Groups and on board with many committees under the MHRD, MOHFW, Ministry of WCD, Social Justice, CBSE, NCERT & UGC. He has been instrumental in developing the Health & Physical Education Guidelines under the National Curriculum Framework of NCERT.

"Unexpected, sudden, unanticipated COVID-19 brought shock to the entire world. The COVID-19 pandemic has intensively affected human life. Mental health and wellbeing have been impacted in a manner unprecedented. We need to be prepared to cope up with the changing realities," explains Dr Nagpal, adding, "And we have to learn to deal with it. We have to change. It's here that we need to come together in solidarity, have a dialogue, have conversations, have discussions to improve our ability to be emotionally strong and deal with the ups and downs of life."

He goes on to say, "A lot of courage is needed to further take this battle forward - to lead happy, healthy, and harmonious lives. And we have the potential to do it. A lot of mental health and wellbeing issues are correctable. They are also preventable and the promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing should be the mainstay of a changing world today. Let's come together. Celebrate mental health and wellbeing, celebrate life."

With this objective, together, we will try to decode mental health issues and well being and bring focus on another world waiting to be born. Through the series, we will explore how change need not be negative and can be a remarkable opportunity for humankind to grow and progress.
